The Eurovision Song Contest has been an annual presentation and competition of songs since 24 May 1956 and is broadcast on television throughout Europe; since 1967 the festival has also been broadcast in countries outside Europe. You can also follow the festival on the internet. The festival owes its name to the Eurovision TV Distribution Network, part of the European Radio Union (EBU). Every active member of the EBU can participate in the song festival, which means that some countries that are just outside of Europe can participate. It concerns countries in North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia. Since 2015, Australia has also been participating in the festival despite the fact that it is not a member of the EBU.

Dutch winners since the start of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 are: "Net als toen" by Corry Brokken (1957), "Een beetje" by Teddy Scholten (1959), "De troubadour" by Lenny Kuhr (1969), "Ding-a-dong" by Teach-In (1975) en "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence (2019). Thanks to the Duncan Laurence, the Netherlands is organizing the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam in 2020.

There are two semi-finals on Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 May, from which 10 countries each qualify for the final, which will be held on Saturday 16 May.
