Visit Holland - The Netherlands
Progress is being made on the renovation of Rotterdam Central Station. Festivities were held recently to mark the opening of the pedestrian passageway.
The subterranean concourse grants access to the train platforms and offers travellers a selection of 25 shops.
New additions to the station include I Am (accessories), Desigual (fashion) and YamYam (Asian cuisine). Dudok pastries, a familiar feature in Rotterdam, has just opened a new shop at the station, joined by Rotterdam’s first Starbucks. The Hema department store has had a branch in the station for some time. De Broodzaak, Bruna, Burger King, Julia’s, The Doner Company, La Place, Smullers, Ola Happiness Station, Albert Heijn To Go, Leonidas, Hunkemöller, Jambelle, Vila, Bloemenenhal Centraal Station, Etos and Rituals are also in the new pedestrian passageway or will be opening shortly.
Travellers can visit the service centre for ticket sales, information about NS rail and RET metropolitan transport, cash machines and the currency exchange shop. Starting in spring 2013, VVV Rotterdam Tourist Information will join NS rail in staffing an information desk in the new station hall, which will be open by then.
Renovations on the station will be completed in spring 2014.
