Visit Holland - The Netherlands
Last year, well over 2.3 million multi-day business trips were undertaken within Holland by Dutch and foreign visitors. These trips yielded well over EUR 2.3 billion. The market for multi-day business trips generates over 55,000 jobs in Holland. NBTC Holland Marketing publishes the results of the Ecorys study into the economic impact of multi-day, national and international business meetings in Holland in the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam on Thursday 3 December.
Business meetings
Well over 2.3 million multi-day, organised MICE business trips are undertaken in Holland, yielding some 5.1 million overnight stays. These trips are undertaken to attend meetings, meetcentives, incentives, conventions and trade fairs. Dutch business people undertake circa 1.3 million business trips in their own country, with a minimum of one overnight stay. International visitors, most of whom hail from Great Britain, the United States and Germany, undertake just shy of one million business trips in our country. Most of these visitors attend meetings (1.5 million), followed by conventions and trade fairs (750,000). The number of meetcentives and incentive trips in Holland is modest, some 75,000.
Economically interesting
Business tourism is economically interesting as business travellers spend above-average amounts on their visits. The business traveller spends almost EUR 1,000 per business trip, including costs for organising the trip. The turnover of multi-day business meetings in Holland is estimated to be in excess of EUR 2.3 billion. Some 54% of this amount is spent by international visitors, which equals approximately EUR 1.3 billion.
Employment
Business trips also contribute considerably to employment in Holland. The market for multi-day MICE business trips yields well over 55,000 jobs. Just over half of these jobs, 52%, are generated by international visitors. Eric Bakermans, Meetings & Conventions Marketing Manager: “Business meetings contribute substantially to the Dutch economy in terms of visitors, spend and jobs. In addition, they are a major catalyst for the knowledge economy. The industry helps to strengthen the image of a city or region, and promotes better utilisation of the available accommodation. In addition, the industry offers job opportunities for groups of people for whom it is usually somewhat more difficult to find jobs."
